hi guys,

i've got a samsung 26" (LE26***** - can't remember the exact name) and anyway, i want to move my wii downstairs as we're getting rid of the upstairs telly...

so, i plugged in the wii to the lcd, and it looks absolutely shocking compared to the beautiful crisp image i get on my sony 21 crt tv thats upstairs! - i've set the image to widescreen and it wont let me set the HDTV option in the settings (you've got 50hz, 60hz, then the HDTV option which is greyed out)

surely with everyone having hd lcds these days this is not the accepted standard, it looks like the image is coming through a second rate aerial connection of old!

any ideas? since we are getting rid of the upstairs telly, if there is no way to get a good image from the wii then its gotta go i'm afraid, the ps3 smacks the living daylights out of it for graphics :(

You need the component cable to be able to select the HDTV option but it still won't look that great I'm afraid.

u got the component cable ? i have a 27" samsung lcd and it looks fine through component

Using component helps, but to be honest the output of the Wii will never look as good on an LCD as it does on a CRT. It looks like **** on my 50" DLP, but I don't mind, when has the Wii ever been about graphics anyway?

Component at 480 looks good to me, the Joytech cable is fine for it and a fair bit cheaper than the official Nintendo one.

It depends a lot on the game your playing as well, I have the same TV with the official component cable and games such as Mario Galaxy look fantastic whereas darker/browner games such as Resident Evil look shocking.

Agreed Mario Galaxy looks good on my 45" DLP but red steel looks cack

the component cable does make a hell of a difference,

I wouldn't even play mine using the official scart lead but when i got component it made it bearable

A 360 is a XBox with a faster processor, how is that more next gen? =/

Depends on your definition of next gen tbh, for some it revolves purely around graphics and physics engines - for those, PS3 and 360 are the only next gen consoles currently.

For the more open-minded it's a combination of graphics, physics and innovation, which brings the Wii in nicely.

For others next gen is pure innovation and let's face it, the Wii is really the only one that's done anything truly innovative this time round.

Personally, I fall into the middle category and own both PS3 and a Wii, but oddly enough still play my PC heaps more than anything else!

More polygons is a **** poor definition for next gen gaming. Next gen should change the way games are played. XBox did it with an amazing online service, the PS1 did it with 3D, Dreamcast did it with its 4 ports, early online play and VMU downloadable content, the Wii does it.

Yo Kreeee, got Super Smash Bros. Brawl now! Woo! So no need to tell me to get it anymore! I'm AmmoCity on halo ;)

OT, get a component cable when playing on the HD TV, it'll look better but will never look as good as a CRT.

Josh

Wii looks fantastic on my 50" Kuro plasma even when compared to my 34" Sony XBR960 HDTV CRT ..its all about video processing / scaling.. unfortunately the majority of LCDs have poor 480i/480p scaling ability.

looks cack on my plasma too, after nearly a month of not being on my wii went back onto it and was checking all the connections as it looks that god damn awful.

Shocking imo.

Admittedly som games look fine but the menus etc are bad.

Interestingly enough it looks cack on my dads 50" Kuro through component, because at the end of the day you are still stretching a 640 x 480 image to fill 50".
