Wii: New secret?

O don't ya just hate it when Nintendo tease you huh?

I have been hearing this rumor for a few days now, but I didn’t know how valid of a rumor it was. Our good friend Falafelkid did some hunting around, and it looks like the story holds water.
The rumor was that Reggie had told employees of GameStop during a recent company meeting that “there will be another big Wii revelation around launch time”. This statement has now been confirmed by Gamepro.

Can you believe we are doing Wii speculation again?! I have no idea what to make of this…so I will just let you guys have at it! Thanks to all of you who sent this in the past few days.

Already, speculation is:

Mic in Wiimote.WiiConnect24 information
The logical suggestion about Wii Play being bundled, too seeing as stores have pulled back a launch date
Something w/ the DS Lite connectivity
DVD movie playback is actually in there.
A surpise launch title or pushed up release date (Mario?)
Millions more units than first thought available.
Automatic upscaling to 720p or 1080i w/out graphic enhancements? It’s possible.
Built in physics chip? This was rumored before, and still possible. Leaves 360 power for AI, particles, etc, but not the 360 graphics.
Online functionallity
Cheaper
Virtual console somthing
Star wars or SSBB at launch
WIIM (Wii Instant Messaging)
Black at launch.
Extra Wiimote, maybe not nunchuk though.
Price drop on Wiimote itself?
New SEGA title at launch, (*hint*NiGHTS*hint*.)
Super Mario Galaxy or Super Smash Bros. Brawl at launch.
Two or more online-enabled games at launch. Possibly Excite Truck and Wii Sports, (which explains why it’s a separate game from Wii Play.)
Full Virtual Console list disclosure.
An earlier release date.

blu ray lol. imagine the pain it would cause sony, however impossible that theory is

720p would be nice. extra game bundled with the wii would be very welcome. dvd playback....something ive never thought about. doesnt it play dvd video then?

No, there is no DVD playback in there, or atleast there wasn't going to be.

Strange that this rumour has come out at the same time that Joystiq is reporting a rumour that there will be a wii out next year with DVD support. I'm thinking these rumours both came from the same place - and that there's nothing in either of them. Having said that, this rumour is persuasive due to the price drop on the gamecube at launch, but then again just because it's persuasive doesn't mean it's true.

Oh, and to steal all of sony's thunder it'll have a blueray drive that will double up as a grill.

yes it did, it was just out in Japan though - produced by panasonic or something IIRC

Its far better looking than most consoles. Actually something that would fit properly in a lounge and not look like a toy.

720p support would be nice for the Wii, DVD playback would be quite handy too.

There's another flap under the gamecube controller ports that fits a slice of bread, the Wii can be used as a toaster!

I think it will be that there will be millions more units at luanch. Judging by conversations I have overheard from my manager at GS and head office nintendo keep increasing our allocation of units :eek:

and we've already taken a lot of pre-orders however this has not been confirmed and is just speculation tbh intresting though
