It's the gfs birthday next week, and having heard her mention something about wanting to try out Brain Training, I went out and picked up a DS with said IQ increasing title, and a copy of Mario Kart to boot.

Now I'm wondering if I shouldn't have picked up a Wii instead. Gaming is a big hobbie of mine, and I think Nintendo is a good way of introducing her to it. I'm thinking the DS might loose the social aspect of the whole thing - I wonder if it would be better if we could play together?

DS are very good, my sister loves hers, but would a girl get more value out of a Wii I wonder? It's not an outragous difference in price - €130 if I factor in an extra Wii mote and Big Brain Academy. It would only be a small matter of exchanging the unopend products at the shop :)

Suggestions very welcome.

btw, PS3 or 360 not an option

I love the Wii, but the DS is a better bet at the moment. The Wii is still sparse in terms of great games. The DS has loads.

With smash bros and mario kart out in the near future I'm really looking forward to some more Wii action, it's not easy to advise though. I've had a quick go on the DS so can't really comment from that side, great thing about the Wii is the social side of gaming.
