Quick question... Should I buy an official Wii classic controller, or can I get away with a plain old Gamecube controller? A Gamecube controller, especially a 3rd party one, would be cheaper I think, but is there any downside to it?

For most games the GC controller will be fine but it doesn't work with all games on the sega genesis.

The classic controller is almost necessary if you plan on using the dpad. It's a fantastic controller.

Absolute truth. I've got two - essential for authentic SNES SFII or Probotector experiences. It's a great all-round pad.

Yep, it's a very solid pad, defo get one if you see yourself using the VC frequently. The GC pad requires the horrible claw position in some games as the controls aren't configurable. It also feels wrong using the GC pad if you've ever owned any old consoles - more authentic. :')

Quoted for Truth.

SF2 sucks on a cube pad, infact anything other than a snes pad! (played it on an xbox pad the other day and it sucked) Its also easier going on your thumb, I've said it before and I'll probably say it again but extensive D-pad use on a wave bird/cube controller gave me blisters. Thumb still silky smooth with classic controller! :D Definitely worth the money.
