Wii - Scart or Component?

If you have an RGB-enabled scart socket on your tv (not all of them are) you'll get a pretty awesome picture compared to regular scart as well :)
As long as it's a proper RGB SCART output, as a lot of the time cheap SCART cables will just be composite SCART, which is the same as connecting a composite cable to a SCART block with your audio.

So am I right in think the RGB Scart doesn't offer 480p?

Also can the component signal be converted to VGA in any way whilst still keeping 480p?

(Just thinking about how best to hook a Wii up to my plasma).

I don't think it does, but I may be wrong, it does give the best picture quality overall next to composite and S-Video though.

VGA wise, you'll need a convertor of sorts that'll convert the component signal to VGA, and for good quality ones, they don't come cheap I don't think. Plus it'd only be at 640x480 anyway, or 854x480.

Just for confirmation to what was posted above it appears that the Component cable has been pushed back to the 22nd December.

:( Had pre-ordered mine as well...

Okay thanks, I've currently got my Gamecube outputing via RGB Scart into a JS RGB Scart to VGA convertor then into the standard VGA port on a PW6 and the picture is great. So as long as the Wii is as good I'll be happy.

A component connection is much better than scart.

On what TV ?
Component isnt automatically superior.

I've got two Panny 'Quintrix F' CRTs, one was imported with Component, and the other EU model via RGB scart actually has the edge for gaming (in 576i mode).
Ive read that CRT TVs convert Component to RGB anyway, not sure about LCDs and Plasmas, at the end of the day it depends on the signal processing inside the TV and what source you're using, not every TV is the same.
The advantage of Component cables is that they are use to carry the progressive scan signal, my LCD doesnt look any different with 480i or 480p games via component
