Wii sd card format

Excuse peeps, I have a wii saved game dat file on my pc, and wish to transfer this file to my sd card, via my pc card reader.
Now what format file system does the wii understand?, fat 32 ect.
Will I have to format the card via the wii first ect.

You don't need to format the card - just shove the file on there
