Does anyone know where games are downloaded to from the virtual console? Surely the internal 512mb would not have enough space after a while, making more sense to have them downloaded to the SD card. Can games then be downloaded to the SD card and then taken and used on a different Wii?

I think that its been reported by Niny that VC games cannot be transfered to a different machine via SD cards, they're locked to the particular console downloaded upon

That is correct. VC games are locked to your console. They can be stored on SD cards though so you can fill the external one up. It will take a lot of games for you to fill one up though. A 64 game is only something like 30-50mb.

Ahh but can you back uo your own VC games on your PC to save space then put them back on your Wii at anytime without any problems?

don't worry chuck, they'll find a way! i mean, PSP owners figured out a whole host of ways to backup their games

Yep. You can't copy them to a PC either as they're locked to the card somehow. You can delete a VC game and download again free as they're tied to your Wii.

What happens if your wii brakes?

Breaks?
You have to send it to Niny so they can reclaim data and copy your 'record' onto another machine, taking weeks I think I read somewhere

n64 games arent that big in general. The 512 if its all for virtual console will last ages. For example Mario 64 is a mere 8mb, I think it will be some time before anyone away from the hardcore 'must buy all games' crowd will require the sd expansion.

Im sure that far too much impulse buying of classics will get me there :)

I have a large wishlist building up:-
All Zeldas
All Marios
Perfectdark
Goldeneye (I reeeeeeeally hope it comes available)
Mario Karts
Donkey Kongs
SF2Turbo
Lylat wars
etc etc

Yeah they do need to be sent back but its meant to be like a 3 day turn-around or something.
This is one reason they should have done gamer accounts and just locked things to the account. Would have been much easier on both ends.

Yea gamer accounts would probably be better, but I guess they just want to avoid mass piracy and abuse of the VC function

Yeah but locking it to an account is not going to be any less fool proof than locking it to a machine. Just make it so that when you want to play the VC game you verify using Connect24 to a central server. Easy enough.

Oh well, we have what we have

Im sure it'll only be a problem for the tiny % who have hardware failure, for the most part I cant see it being a problem

One another thing to mention is you only have 48 channel spaces. So if you have 40 ish VC games, you won't have any space for any more - regardless of free memory. To top that off, if you do have expansion, the Wii doesn't load from it. So if you've copied off a game, the game doesn't link to a Wii channel (nor can you load off it...)

Firmware fixes ahoy! Sub-channels please (ie: NES, SNES...)

I think I read somewhere that it feels very much like - certainly in comparison to Live! - that WiiConnect24 is rushed, and a case of doing it the quickest, rather than best way.

(Yep: Wii Thoughts and Suggestions (IGN) )

Its early days, we all know that Live definitely sets the standard for online console play

Im sure that Niny wont let us down and will take onboard the various suggestions for improving the Wii's functionality through updates

That IGN article does pose some interesting points

Aye, simple things too. My worry is in knowing how stubborn Nintendo are - especially when it's down to 'thinking of the children'. I'll be happy if a few of those ideas are implemented at least.
