Seen in the news today that the Wii sold out in one of the major retailers online only 7 minutes after going up for orders. Making it the fastest selling preorder in there history.

Nice!

I was shocked by the news aswell, don't suppose you know how many they actually had available to pre-order as I have not been able to find a figure?

Officials from *CENSORED*.co.uk have revealed that the company sold out of its allocations of the Wii console just seven minutes after opening pre-orders.

The British website of the successful American online retailer announced that it would begin taking pre-order sales of the Wii, at a price of £179.99 ($342), from November 21st. The company had elected to wait until it was provided full details of its stock allocation before allowing pre-orders.

“We expected a high number of people to visit the site today but the response was phenomenal. It is the fastest selling pre-order item we have ever encountered – even eclipsing Harry Potter and Coldplay,” said *CENSORED*.co.uk’s console and video games manager, James Schall. “It is very rare that we sell out of any item, let alone in only seven minutes.”

No indication was given of how many consoles *CENSORED*.co.uk had available for pre-order but the company has indicated that it expects to receive more stock when the console goes on general release in the UK and Europe on December 8th.

“There are a limited number of these consoles available and had we taken pre-orders before knowing our initial stock, we would have run the risk of not being able to fulfill the orders when the release date arrived,” said James Schall. “We would not want to let down our customers in that way - everyone who pre-ordered the item at *CENSORED*.co.uk today will receive their Wii the moment that it is available.”

*NB *CENSORED*.co.uk is not an actual shop!

pre-orders are going for around £250 at the moment on the bay. I think a lot of people will just assume its sold out in shops and simply bid for it on the day its out.

Thats what i hope anyway :p got two to shift

I have took the route of waiting until some decent bundle comes out.

Apart from the novelty value of Wii Sports nothing really has grabbed my attention but Zelda, although that is reason on its own to buy the console I would rather wait for the £190 with a game deals to start appearing when the console is taking up space in the highstreet stores. :)

That and I would like to try one before buying!

Ditto :D I set everything up before as I've missed out on these things so I wanted to be as quick as possible going from "Add to basket" to "You've won Wii!" \o/ Shame I can't have it till Xmas morning.... :(

Considering which retailler it is I would imagine they have the second largest UK stock allocation, why I am interested to know the sales figure.

Understandable why they would not release it though.

Amazing, my mate and i were both online at 9am and i had to go to a bloomin training course that day from half nine so missed out and he also did ... but i honestly didn't think it would have all been sold out in 7 mins

Can't wait till about mid December ... shall try to get one then methinks

Apparently it sold the American site out in less than 1 minute.

Nintendo’s new Wii games console got off to a flying start in the United States this weekend as *CENSORED*.com sold out of the machines in less than 60 seconds.

The world’s largest online retailer said on its American website: "We sold out of our initial supply of the Wii on Sunday morning, November 19, in less than one minute. We expect to receive periodic shipments of the Wii from Nintendo throughout the holidays."

The site added that one second-hand Wii, which retails for $250 new, was available from a would-be reseller - at a cost of $999.95.

Strong demand was also in evidence at traditional retailers, with some fanatics camping out for several days to be sure of getting their hands on one of the machines.

An *CENSORED* spokesman would not reveal how many units the retailer had initially secured but said the group had not been surprised to sell out so quickly. He said: "In every instance I can think of, new games consoles have been underproduced."

Similar keen demand is expected to be seen for the Wii (pronouced "we") in the UK when it is released in the UK on December 8. It will cost £179.99. The console will go on sale in Japan on December 2.
