Just saw on the news, apparently millions of Wii straps are being recalled due to them breaking so easily. The're gong to be replaced with far stronger ones (obvously), but doesn't it seem a bit odd that they didn't notice it in playtesting?

I figure the people who were playtesting weren't idiots, because I have played on the Wii and honestly can't work out how people are even letting go of it, never mind chucking it at things with enough force to smash them.

The only thing Nintendo are at fault for here is giving people too much credit and not idiot-proofing their product.

Because the straps are breaking! They're not just letting go

As far as I can tell the straps are only breaking because people are whacking their Wii-mote around thinking they're Tim Henman or Mike Tyson and are letting go of it, the strap is only meant as a safeguard and not as a solution to the problem.

Like I said, all Nintendo are at fault for here is not idiot proofing it. They gave people too much credit.

Am I the only one thinking that the difference between Nintendo's extensive testing and the real world is that NOW we've got a bunch of drunken parties going on whilst playing the games ?

Yep, alcohol will remove inhibitions and folks not bother fitting straps, over exuberant movements and incapable of holding on to things.

Then next day telling mom that the strap broke and smashed their 42" plasma - honest

:D

Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

Try pulling on your strap with roughly the same force a slipped Wii mote could apply, does it snap? thought not

I got one of the first Wii but after a few minutes playing the strap broke and the controller shot off and hit my partner in the face resulting in two broken teeth. She slipped at the same time falling into the TV set and smashing the screen. The TV was plugged into the surround sound system and consequently pulled it over and smashing into my CD and DVD collection. I advise anyone to be careful of the wii

Or translated, hello insurance company I want lots of nice new stuff please!

The bundle controller with Wii Play has a significantly thinner and longer cord that connects to the strap, so I can see how that one may break given enough force. It is suprisingly easy to 'let go' or slip with the remote. The first hour I had it my bro and my fiancee's bro both let go of the pad during tennis; neither of whom are "retarded".

ORRR... I let go of the remote, it hit the dog, the dog ran out of the house onto the main road, caused an eight car accident, one of the cars knocked over a phone line, becuase of this a man couldn't phone for an ambulance and died, this man was a friend of Osama Bin Laden, he wasn't happy so blew up a US city. Therefore I blame the Wii on World War 3.

I blame your lack of coordination to keep hold of the controller, or your lack of hygiene that your hands were too sweaty.

I refuse to believe, point blank and challenge anyone to prove me wrong, that holding the wiimote, with the wrist strap attached accordingly will result in the strap braking. Until someone proves me wrong, I will brandish each and every person a liar.

I can understand people getting hit in the face, I can understand the wiimote smashing lamps, but it's just not possible for the strap to brake whilst you're holding the wiimote.
