I don't think people would intentionally do it however for example where my 360 is placed in my room it means that if the sun is shining into my room I Can't see half of my TV's screen (due to glare from the sun).
Now judging by that article that would mean for the best part I couldn't play on the Wii.
Of course this doesn't actually bother me to much as I don't get much chance to play on the 360 (and possible in the future the Wii too) during the daytime due to work etc but for some people this could present and issue.
no one complained about the fact the DS cannot be used outside due to glare and I think that is just slightly more of an issue than this, which is referring to part of a static indoor machine
From my understandign the position of the sensor bar is flexible to some degree so I'm sure you could work around it even in bright sunlight. The halogen light issue is probably more of a problem although I'm sure neither are that big of a deal.
