I got a Wii on a whim, not because I particularly wanted one but more because I wanted to see what the fuss was about. I also wanted to take it to my girlfriends as a bit of an alternative to board games and TV. I'm not a massive gamer, I have an Xbox 360 and only really play PES6 and PGR3 on live.

So, this Wii then. Seems a bit of a gimmick to me, granted I have only played Wii Sports but I wasn't massively impressed. Obviously the new control system is the selling point and this aspect is impressive, but everything seems a bit flat as if its missing something. There is only so much fun you can have swinging a baseball bat at your screen :p Graphics wise its ok, nothing compared to my Xbox 360 however.

With that said, it went down an absolute storm at my girlfriends house particularly with people who haven't really played computer games. At one point, my girlfriends nan, grandad, mum and dad were all taking turns playing on the Wii and were having a great time. I guess this made me realise what the Wii is all about. Get a group of people together who aren't particular interested in cutting edge graphics and it will go down a treat. Really did suprise me how much fun people were having playing it just being able to pick the controler up and mimick real actions.

I really love my Wii, and don't find it a gimmick at all. Wii Sports is meant to be multiplayer, it's a lot of fun and very intuitive.
We've now been to 2 out of 3 sets of parents (boyfriends are divorced, and I can't go to his mums until tomorrow), and it has gone down really well so far. My mum really wasn't interested because it was a game, until she saw us playing bowling. She had one go, and ended up doing a couple of rounds, beating my boyfriend!

I really think that bowling is the best multiplayer game of Wii Sports. Even people who have no interest in sports will still bowl, and know what they're doing straight off. It's just a shame that it doesn't support more than 4 players, since it's one that the controller can be passed around for.

Have you picked up Wii Play yet? The games are a little crazy, and possibly better for drunken fun than family gaming, but the cow racing went down really well last night with my boyfriends family :).
