Wii U sound - how to work around having no optical out?

Is there any decent and preferably cheap solution to getting sound from my Wii U? I'm trying to play it through a projector, but the receiver I'm using requires an optical input, which is fine for my xbox and ps3, but sadly missing from the Wii U.

I've got a temporary solution of having it connected to the projector via hdmi and having the audio jack on the gamepad being connected to the receiver for sound but that's less than ideal.

Short of spending a fortune on a new receiver that accepts hdmi in, has anyone with a similar problem been able to find a solution to this?

I use a amp and to be honest the sound output from the wii u is all in stereo from all the games i have tested. your cheapest option may be some cheap speakers - its stereo anyway

I'd still have to have to have speakers plugged into the headphone jack if I bought another set of speakers though and that's what I'm doing this now.

After sleeping on the decision, I've decided just to cave in and buy a new amp with hdmi input, making this Wii U a very expensive investment indeed. Hopefully there'll be some top titles coming out soon to justify it!
