Hi all,

I currently own a couple of DS's, a wii with a handful of games, an xbox 360s with a handful of games too + my PC.

My 4 year old is wanting a tablet/computer of her own so she can learn and play games on there, and having just dug out the Wii I was wondering if it is worth trading in the Wii + DS's and updating to the Wii U?

Computer/game time is going to be limited and we spend a lot of time outside running around, exploring forests, examining insects etc but I'd like her to be able to have something to play on that everyone can join in on.

Well i'd keep the wii , as the controllers will work on a wiiU . or your going to be paying more for multiplayer . Looking at oen for my 6 year old niece myself ... just waiting for the base unit to drop below £100

I highly recommend the Wii U for children and an entry to gaming. My 3 year old uses ours regularly, he has his own account that you can password protect if desired. The parental features are great, you can lock features and age specific content as you desire.

The tablet style layout is quite easy to use, some of the apps like Youtube however are cumbersome to use, they seem less developed than the IOS/androids offerings.

The games though are absolutely brilliant, Mario Kart, New super Mario, Donkey Kong, Disney infinity etc. The Wii U if you're unaware is also backwards compatible with the Wii, all this with the joys of having off screen play, on many titles and even when playing Wii games (Using a wiimote)

Overall it's a great addition to our family, we'll all have a blast on games every now and again. Tablets obviously have their strengths in other area's but the Wii U for us has brought many good family times.

Totally worth it the wii u is a class console , I find it really nostalgic , as it reminds me of the days I used to play all the classics on the snes :)

Wii U has had the most amount of play time than any console I've ever owned. Not by me particularly, but my son (just turned 5) adores it, and off-TV play means it doesn't dominate the play.

Between that and games like Mario, Mario Kart and Smash it has plenty of family appeal. Ideal kids console, but don't discount the adult appeal as well :D

Mine gathers dust.. Bought it for the kids whenever it came out... Been used maybe 20times.. Mind you, they also have PS4, 360 and gaming PC's. Actually 95% of what they play is their pc's and Minecraft and Roboblox... So this isn't a dig at the Wii U. The PS4 see's hardly any use either.

Wii U is best current gen console for kids of that age, plus as someone said it is backward compatible with Wii games. Your Wii controller(s) are worth more than the Wii so make sure you keep them.
