Morning all,

I'm looking at getting the above system, mainly just for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate as I sold my 3DS and I never got into the game properly which makes me sad :(

Also, Zelda, Metroid Prime, Mario... Some great fun sit on the sofa like a vegetable titles.

So yea, what's good and bad about the system? What's the deal with the controllers? I don't like the idea of being active and waving my arms around playing grab fanny when playing a game. So is that still a thing with all the Wii games or does the Wii U give you an alternative?

Thanks

Gamepad battery is pretty crap and it doesn't hold it's charge when not in use, so you have to keep it on the charging cradle all the time if you want to make sure it has battery when you come to using it. Using the gamepad pro controller, which is better for most games anyway would take care of this problem anyway, or alternatively get a "Game Pad High Capacity Battery"

I don't have to wave my arms around for any of the Wii U games I've played so far (Monster Hunter 3, Lego City Undercover, Zelda Windwaker, ZombiU, Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World etc). You can just sit on the couch and play them like any other console.

Bad things about the system? Nothing. I haven't needed to buy a PS4 or Xbox One yet as there are no good "exclusives" for them yet, but the Wii U has a number of good games, in my opinion.

You still need to use the Wii controller and motion controls if you want to play Wii games on your Wii U but for pretty much every Wii U game you can just use the controller.

So, MH3U works with the controller? I don't mind keeping it in cradle or plugged in for charge as I sit right next to a set of sockets from an extension lead.

I'm just trying to work out the logistics of why I need a game pad? Are the graphics even slightly good? Or should I just forget about such things?

Are there any good RPG's on the system?

Some games make good use of the game pad. One that comes to mind is Windwaker HD. Being able to access map/inventory quickly and without pausing is really nice. Being able to play games on just the game pad is also nice.

The graphics on Mario Kart 8 and Windwaker HD are great IMO.

I think the only Wii U RPG is MH3 atm.

Surely windwalker is an rpg?

The battery life on the controller isn't that bad, what is it 5-6 hours? I have only had it die on me once. You can plug in the charging cable of that is a concern, and the cable is fairly long.

The only wii u game that I have not been able to play, just using the wii u gamepad, was just dance. I really like the controller and I haven't felt any need to get a pro controller. The second screen is great. I think in monster hunter you can move all the Ui to the pad, giving you a very clean game on the TV screen.
