Hi guys

Just finally got my hands on a wii and was wondering how to connect the thing up to the net tbh i cant really afford a router as yet so i was looking at a usb wifi adaptor will these be any good?

belkin wireless 54g usb networking adaptor

available from high street tv shop for £20

will that get my wii on the net and would it if i brought the adaptor feed the xbox360 too?

cheers guys

I don't think it will work to be honest. I tried to do the same thing with a Netgear USB dongle and I got nowhere after many hours or trying. The Wii doesn't seem to like connecting to an ad-hoc network, unless it is via Nintendo's own USB dongle which the Wii has a seperate setup process for, i.e. it is specifically catered for.

I'm now kicking myself a bit as I should have just bit the bullet and plumped for a wireless modem router in the first place.

If you're on cable I saw that the big chain of PC stores (the one with the dumb staff) have the Linksys WRT54G on special offer for about £35 if reserved online and picked-up in store, although you'd be much better off getting this for a few quid more.

The newer Linksys WRT54G models don't run the Linux firmware any longer as they've switched to VxWorks, and they've had the amount of flash memory reduced to stop people flashing them :( The WRT54GL is still shipped with the Linux and a decent sized flash, so you can upgrade them to 3rd party firmwares such as openWRT or dd-wrt.

I know it's slightly more than you originally wanted to spend, but it's really worth it - they're great bits of kit, trust me.
