Why does it vary so much? One minute its crackly as hell the next minute it's clear as a bell, is it to do with your position in relation to the console?
I've noticed different wireless signals, routers or cards, can affect the speaker. I used to use a PCI wireless card in my PC. The crackly noises were really annoying with Zelda. I turned them off for a while but then figured what was causing it so I went old school with the ethernet cables out the windows
My friend had this same problem, only he got it on 3 controllers so he knew straight off it was not his controllers. He isolated it to his DECT phone (or some other wireless phone). He moved the basestations and bang, problem went away.
