Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year

Some great pictures there, I particularly like the one with the cow :) Pity its not landscape oriented, else that would be a nice desktop wallpaper.
 
I'm actually impressed, that's one of the first photography competitions I've seen that actually has only great photographs as entries. I'd be proud of any of them. Good collection to have together too.
 
Some of them don't seem to great to me, more like the kind of shots I would take if I was at that scene and put a couple of minutes thought into it- nice but nothing inspiring, e.g. number17- I loads of similar shots since I live in Switzerland, likewise shot 12, a swiss cow i the swiss alps (good DoF with a polariser though). And some of them are just classic shots well photographed, like the Westminster pic.

i love pic 4, fantastic textures and colours. You really don't know what you are looking at until viewed full screen and with a description.

They're presumably judged within the context of Wikipedia, though—i.e. with an emphasis placed on encyclopaedic qualities as much as photographic ones.
