So if your touring with say a one man tent what are your experiences of rain, wind, sterilising water, cleaning. Haven't been camping for years and seem to remember waking up with everything inside tent soaking wet(old tent though). So are most one man tents nowadays fully waterproof or do you have to spend loads for a decent tent - any tips here? Am I right in saying you have a flysheet over the tent and then the tent itself, which is breathable I think, should you also buy a tarp, which I thinking is just like an extra flysheet? Any how about sanitising water, what's best way here, a filter, tablets, etc?

You'd generally sleep under a tarp in a bivi bag, or else on some sort of raised platform that you build. No point in putting one up over a tent.

Decent modern tents will have a water-proof (to varying degrees) flysheet and a breathable inner tent. On a colder night you'll often find that the inside of the flysheet is wet, which is from the moisture in your breath. You can limit this to a degree by ensuring good ventilation between the flysheet an inner tent.

Vango make pretty decent and light-weight tents for a reasonable price. I have a Vango Mirage 200 (which is roomy for one and cosy for two). It weighs only 2.8kg, so it's ideal if you'll be carrying everything yourself. Unless it's raining I sleep with the doors open and rolled up to avoid too much condensation.

If you're collecting water I'd recommend fitration and sterilising by boiling before drinking, just to be on the safe side.
