Will 1066 memory be ok on a 800 MHZ mobo?

Hello,

Brought an electronic Keyboard (KRONOS), and it requires additional ram with spec: 240-Pin PC2-6400 CL-5 (or CL-6) DDR2-800 non-ECC Unbuffered DIMM 1GB

Now then, I have an "old" Tracer ballistix stick of ram from my pc a few years back. However it is PC-8500 (not PC-6400) and a speed of "1066" (not 800). I put it in the Keyboard and it worked, and saw the memory. I'm wondering though, if it could cause some damage to the MOBO in the long run (Intel® Desktop Board
D510MO). And probably advised to get the correct ram for it??

Ok, ill have a look if other Keyboard users are putting in different ram as well.

Thanks

PS: what's the difference between PC2-6400 and PC2- 8500 anyway?

The PC2-8500 will use RAM chips rated to run at the higher speed.

They may even be the same chips used on PC2-6400 that overclock to the faster speed with more voltage.

They'll quite happily run at the lower speed of PC2-6400 as well.

Thanks Surveyor, seems enough info there for me to put the Ram in (some people have put the recommended spec ram in [various brand names] and dont work)!. I was just "fearing" - if you will; that faster "non compatable" (according to the spec sheet) RAM would damage the Mini D510 Motherboard.

Thank you

PS:, the striker formula Motherboard i had it in, "Did" always seem to default to 800 - when not overclocked. My main worry here is damage to the motherboard in the keyboard, as fitting RAM etc "may" (so say KORG) invalidate your warrentee.
