Will 3870X2 crossfireX ever be worthwhile?

I'm just wondering if running two 3870X2 cards will ever be worthwhile? Obviously the drivers need time to mature and developers need to offer decent multi-GPU scaling like COD4. By this time I imagine the faster 4870X2 cards and the like will be due.

I'm tempted by a 3870X2 due to the ability to add another card at a later date but in reality I expect it won't be worthwhile. Any thoughts? It may be interesting if we're able to crossfire a 4870 with a 3870X2.

As far as crossfiring goes it seems to be in the generation of cards only, aka 3xxx crossfires with 3xxx, doesn't work with a 38xx and a 29xx for example.

Crossfiring quad cores is debatable, the initial results were pretty underwhelming. Cod 4 showed a decent increase as did 3d mark but thats really not saying much. Been considering it myself but id like to see larger fps bumps, wouldn't mind seeing how insane the tf2 framerate is with quadfire.
