Hi

since looking at 4k monitors im toying with the idea of changing my mobo to one that supports tri fire and picking up a used 7950 and adding it in as a cheap ish upgrade.

would this be worth while?

specs would be, 4670k (probably an asus Z87pro if i change) i currently have 2x 7950 on ek blocks (would be tri fire) 8gb ram, custom water cooled

cheers

Jason

As long as you turn the texture/sampling settings down so you don't hit the 3gb Vram buffer than you'll have enought GPU grunt to push 4k.

Yes they will, quite nicely too. Your gpu's will have enough grunt to use the vram available to them and your cpu will fit nicely at 4k too.

cheers for the replies!

i need to look at the cost of a motherboard + a 7950 + water block vs the cost of 2x 290/290x + waterblocks

Jason.

You'll get no decent frame pacing @4k with trifire 7900, as the crossfire bridge doesn't have enough bandwidth.

I wasn't at all happy with 7970/7990 trifire @2560x1400 144hz.

If you are looking at a gpu for ~£80, waterblock for ~£60, and motherboard for ~£90, I'd say it would be worth at least considering the 290x route.

Or, look at this...

I know it's more cash, but I think you'd get a much better experience from 295X2 and XDMA crossfire @4k.
