will 775 socket mobo's take the new cornoe cpu?

In short, no.

There is a new revision of the 775 (I think it's called 775XBX or something) chipset that will take Intel Core 2 Duo however that won't be released until the same time as the actual CPU IIRC.

In short, yes but with a but. 755 is the socket of the Conroe. However most existing motherboards did not comply with Intel's power supply specification for the P4 CPU. This means brands like Asus, Abit etc will have to release newer revision boards and they will be branded as "Conroe compatible" or something along those lines. AFAIK the Intel branded boards are compatible.

Asrock are releasing conroe versions of several skt775 mobos. The pictures and info are on there website now. Over the next couple of months all manufacturers will be gearing up big time for Conroe releases. Expect to see some falls in prices on the 'old stock' to get them out the door. :p

he speaks the truth , current chipsets support conroe(even 865 does! :o ) , what needs to change is VRM on these mobos and we are done. So for those already with a mobo 775 and not VRM compatible a small mod would allow them to operate with this cracking cpu :D

There are some boards advertised as conroe ready, I think it needs at least a bios update though. I just brought one not that I will have a conroe for years though

The issue is that current 775 mobos do not allow for large sudden voltage drops which Conroe is apparently generating as standard when it operates @ different volts according to loadings.

Intels BadAxe975X mobo can run ES Conroes, that is what everyone is using right now but even that may not work with the production samples.

If its just a case of a bit of soldering then thats what I will do as the rest of my 4 month old £175+ mobo should run Conroe fine.

Lets remember as well, that its all well and good saying that older boards may accept it with a bios update but they will only be able to run at stock levels (maybe a little more) as the default bus of the Conroe is 266mhz (1066 effective) and there are very little 865 boards that can get anywhere near 300mhz.

The bottom line is if you want to overclock the Conroe (and to be honest, who doesn't ;) ) then you are going to need a new board with a new chipset that allows the fsb to run around the 400fsb mark (1600fsb effective) with ease.

to get the best out of Conroe processors, people are going to have to for a high end motherboard costing £100+, conroe processor £175+ and 2gigs of DDR2 -667/800 memory £150+. So for a quality upgrade to conroe looking for £425+. :(

Now how much is my DFI Ultra -D, winchester 3000+ plus 2gigs of Samsung UCCC that runs at ddr520 worth? Not a lot when conroe comes out...

I nearly cried when i saw Asrock were releasing the 865i chipset for Conroe, running a CPU like that on DDR1 is almost criminal :(
although then again i suppose it would be ideal for a low end word processing machine

Yea Iam not sure how it'll work out, my ddr1 ram is 250mhz and obviously you can get even faster then that but conroe needs 400mhz ?

Not quite, most conroes will need 266MHz memory as i understand it 266*4=~1066MHz  FSB but there will be a conroe that runs on a 800MHz FSB meaning 200MHz memory so on that chip you could use either DDR-400 or DDR2-400. So potentially the 865i mobos will be limited to which conroes they can use. Remember DDR2 and DDR1 are substitutable depending on the mobo as long as the CPU runs at 200MHz bus then it can use both DDR2 and DDR1 RAM

Just read that the top clocker of conroe is using a fsb almost as high my machines bus speed  .
He is at 435 and 1738 respectively

Thats isane but very, very cool, what frequency is that CPU running at?

Looking forward to seeing just which boards are and aren't compatible with Conroe.
A friend of mine bought a I925 based motherboard as he assumed it would be fine for the next generation - not looking good now.

Another friend of mine has a I975, but is ASUS as far as I know and was bought soon after the release of the chipset so he's in the dark at the moment too.

I purchased an Intel brand I955 chipset based motherboard.
Not an officially listed compatible chipset - however as it is Intel branded there seems to be a slightly better chance the right VRM's were used and it maybe OK.

Just gotta wait and see I guess.

I'm waiting for the conroe-compatible nForce590 mobos. I don't want to miss out on any advantages that LinkBoost and SLI-memory may bring.

I have seen something about this linkboost thing before but could not find any solid info on it. care to share what it is?
I think tho that i will stick with intel based mobos for conroe in my rather unfortunate experiance intel mobos are the only ones that dont hang on me all the time!!!

The Asrock Twins 775 motherboard is not conroe compatible at present, the revision 2 out in June will be but none are for sale yet. It has extra voltage regulation that the present version does not have
