Currently an 8800 won't fit into my case, not that I can afford one anyway, but I'm curious if anyone knows whether the cards will be brought down to the size of DX9 cards eventually?

Historically it's happened with other components before, Hard disks, sound cards, network cards and GFX cards etc... so Yes I would imagine eventually they would be smaller, just a matter of time before technology/manufacturing advances.

They are the same size as Dx9 cards, its only the 8800 GTX which is longer, the GTS is the same length as ATi's x1k range (x1800's/x1900's/x1950's), and the new 320mb GTS which is coming now may be a bit shorter as it has less memory chips, also the 8600's etc... the low/mid range cards from Nvidia should also be shorter. :)

I think that they will be smaller when nvidia will go down with technology...smaller tech smaller size, les power consumption. So maybe next gen of 8800 will get a little smaller :)

So much for advances in technology, PSU's getting bigger, CPU coolers getting bigger, Gfx cards getting bigger, case cooling getting bigger. I reckon the sucessor to Blu-Ray will be use discs the size of a vinyl LP.

Didn't realise it was only the GTX that was larger!
I may well invest in 320mb GTS for my next update then :D

I have a Silentium T1 Pro: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-002-AR

IMO my GTS is smaller than my 7900 GTO and fits happily in my Super Lanboy with 5cm to spare. I thought it was gunna be a tight squeze but not at all.

lmao, what are you on? :p

Ive got the tsunami dream case, an i had to remove the harddirve cage, then take away my floppy drive and put my hardrives in those slots lol. who needs a floppy drive anyways :D

I was only beat by about 10/20mm, and i could have cut a little out of the hardrive cage and it would have been fine. But just decided to take floppy away.

There was a 8800GTX case chart on this forum somewhere if you search for it.
