Will a 16x9" rear wheel @ ET +35 rub on a 40mm lowered MR2? (FAO: Cee-S-Dee?)

I'm looking at getting some new wheels for the car and I've found some lovely 16" wheels that are 16 x 7 (fronts) and 16 x 9 (rear) with 205-45-16 and 225-45-16 tyres.

My car is a 95 UK rev3 and it's on black billies with Eibach pro springs.
I've used the wheel calculator and it's saying that the rear wheels will be ~0.2mm further out than flush with the arches.

Will this cause me problems with rubbing or should they be ok?

When comparing the rolling radius etc. with my standard wheels they are identical, it's just the extra width I'm concerned about.

I'm looking at making an offer on these wheels ASAP so if you can help please let me know your thoughts soon!

*edit*

Thinking about it - 225 on a 9" rim is gonna be pretty stretched is it not?

Wouldn't worry about that, 0,2mm is nothing. The wheel will tuck as the suspension compresses anyway, and with a stretch like that the tyre clearance won't be an issue.
When that thing says flush though, flush with what, the inside of the arch lip, or the outside?

I'm not sure if i'm honest with you - I'd guess outside, that's what it looks like in the diagram.

I'm just put off by that much stretch...seems a heckuva skinny tyre for a 9" rim given that most of the guys running 8.5" rims are on 245's.

Yeah my thoughts too - I don't want the stretched look...grr I thought I'd finally found "The" wheels this time. I just really don't want to spend £300 on four 15" tyres! These wheels were £400 with nearly new tyres so made much more sense.

Wheels in question.

I thought you already found a set of wheels that you were refurbing over christmas?

Turns out they aren't the right offsets for the mr2 - they're sat in my garage doing nothing now

My old MR2 turbo had 18" Kahn RSR alloy wheels with 245/35/18 on the rear if that helps in any way. Was lowered quite a bit on coilovers too.

How come? I'm running a 17x9 +35 with a 255 tyre on the rear, lowered 40mm and no rubbing. Fits perfect.

They are 17x8 +45 front and rear - the fronts stick out way more than the back.

These ones would be about right, but those stretched tyres are putting me off as I'd have to shell out to replace them.

I emailed the seller about them too and expressed my concern over the stretch, to which he replied that they weren't stretched as I could see in the photos...lol?!

I'm running 225s on a 7.5" wheel. Why on earth would you buy a massive wheel that you're worried about clearance on only to then run comparatively skinny tyres and look naff in the process.

Get 245 minimum on there for a bit more grip on the back end, or stick with 7.5" wheels.

On a related note, and not worth it's own thread, can someone tell me the difference between a "j" and a "jj" wheel. It turns out the new ones I've bought are 7jj, not 7j as advertised.

Well he's right the tyres in the pic aren't stretched but that deosn't mean it the same wheels/tyres your buying:)

225 is hardly a huge stretch on a 9j, why would you be concerned unless you are one of those people with an irrational hatred for the look?
FWIW, different tyres (of the same size) give different levels of stretch. With a larger sidewall profile like those ones, you'll barely notice it as the sidewall angle is shallower.

That's a good shout I guess...I'm just confused - it's a shame I can't go to see the wheels as they're in the arse end of the country.

Anyone near Bexhill on Sea that can go look for me? :)

They will be fine mate. 225 will have a slight stretch so will actually give you less of a chance of rubbing. I run a 9 on the rear of mine with a 255 and a et35 and its fine.

I want to space them out another 3mm to try and get them completely flush. The natural camber will tuck them in a bit.

I got some 8.5" wide buddy clubs and i'm going to stick a 245 on them.

Get some pics up if you get them. What wheels are you looking to buy?
