Evening all,

I have been thinking of upgrading to a 120hz monitor i really like the look of this LG one and the price looks pretty good to

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-091-LG&groupid=17&catid=1425&subcat=

I have a 20" dual screen setup at the mo with my Asus 5850 and i play games like battlefield gta4 etc on stock settings just fine with the 10.3 drivers (dont wanna change em as they seem to work great). I have OC my 5850 to 850/1100 before without any issues so would it run a 120hz monitor ok a max res of 1920x1080?

The rest of my spec is in my sig below

Many thanks

It'll run it, but to be honest the problem you'll have is getting 120hz to work properly with an ATI card, it was the main reason I parted ways with a 5870 and back to nvidia. Perhaps this issue has been fixed now and someone with a 120hz/ati setup can shed some light on this.

^^ its pretty hit/miss - for every person I know that it works flawlessly for on ATI/AMD I know another who has no end of trouble.

You need to consider the performance of your GPU in the games you play.

If the HD 5850 isn't hitting more than 60fps then I don't think you'd see any benefit.

I had a 5870 with the LG 120hz monitor and I had absolutely no trouble with it at all. A 5850 should handle a 120hz monitor fine but gaming smoothness will still ultimately depend on the power of you GPU and how many fps it can spit out. :)

I was playing crysis the other day and i took vsync off and it was thrwoing around 80fps but gave me some bad tearing of course so i turned on d3doverider to limit it to 60. I feel my card could be pushed a fair way it runs these games fine on high graphical settings with the card at stock speed. Might do some research into it to try and see how many ati issues there are with 120hz monitors, dont know if it would even work with my 10.3 drivers though :D well over a year old now

I asume that's not the original Crysis or you're playing on low settings.
