Will a 5970 fit into a fractal r3?

Help with the above please. a friend is selling one for £120. im thinking of buying it off him but don't know if it will fit in my case. he doesn't live close so cant exactly borrow it of him

ignore the specs in sig. dont have that gpu anymore

I don't think it will fit. The Fractal Designs Define R3 supports graphics cards up to 290mm. A reference HD 5970 is 309mm long.

However, if you know the exact model you're getting it might be shorter if it has a custom PCB.

I'm sure you'll find it's the HD 5970 which is being sold for £120.

well he has 3. he had three pc's so hes getting rid. does anybody know the sizes of the non oem cards

i have found out this Fractal = 290mm of space for GPU's 5970 = 309mm in length. but someone said above that some 5970 might be shorter than others. any ideas which are the shorter ones

Wouldn't it be easier to ask him what the specific make and model of the card is or for him to just measure it?

The 5870 reference card is 280mm long. Really depends on the model you're buying though as different manufactuers cards will be different lengths, some longer, some shorter.

For £120 I'd get the 5970 regardless dude. If it doesn't fit you'll fetch a good price on any auction site....

It fits but not without brute force. It says in the description that the frame of R3 yielded few millimeters, which enabled 5970 to fit.

thanks. talking to my mate again he has overclock them and messed around with them so decided against that one. pick up a new dell oem one for £220 with 1 year rtb warrenty. there is a handle type this at the back but it can be removed.
