Will a 6770 be enough for Bioshock Infinite?

I have an ATI HD 6770 and an Intel Q9650 CPU. Will Bioshock Infinite run at decent settings, on a 24 inch monitor, with those two? I was thinking about buying an ATI 78xx from OcUK to get Bioshock Infinite and Tomb Raider free. Perhaps this one? Is that a decent card to get or are there better options? It would be cool to spend £170 and get two free games! Do the games actually come bundled or do I have to send off for a key code?

Cheers. :)

A Q9650 is about on par with what I've got - Phenom 965. I've also got a HD7850 2GB and I'm able to run the game at 1080p on high settings giving a very smooth playable experience - it looks amazing to be honest.

The free games are actually a redemption postcard voucher which you register via the provided link on the card - they then instantly email you the actual redemption code to enter in Steam and away you go.

I'd hazard a guess you might have to run on low settings for HD6770 at that resolution to get playable FPS - anyone able to confirm exactly what can be expected of this card?

Yeah, that's my thinking. The CPU is more than good enough. I just think my 6770 is going to be the bottleneck and a game like Bioshock Infinite is going to need a fairly modern GPU to run at a fair settings on a high resolution.

I like that it's all done on Steam. No need to wait days for a disc to get posted out. :) My 6770 is right next to my sound card; I'm a bit worried that the sound card is affecting the ability of the GPU fan to expel warm/hot air so I've been thinking about getting an Asus Xonar DX PCI-E as that slot is miles away from the GPU slot. I'm going to take the sound card out of my PC sometime this week and see if the temps fall. If they do, I'll get a new sound card as well. :)

I'll wait for more replies, but I think I realistically need a much more powerful GPU than my 6770 to run Bioshock Infinite with settings that look good.

Yes if you can afford it, get the upgrade - a word of advice is don't get less than 2GB VRAM with the direction games are going (higher res more textures). 1GB variants are certainly cheaper but you might regret it in the future.

I reckon you could run it at medium. 6770 is still fairly powerful.

I also wouldn't worry about its temp, they can go up to 100c without any problems really, which it probably isn't any where near. Not worth investing in a new sound card for anyway.

Yeah, was planning on getting a 2GB card. As you say, games are using more high resolution textures, so there's no point in going 1GB any more I'd say. :)

Just need to see if taking my sound card out affects the temps on my 6770 to see if I make an order for a PCI-E sound card as well. :p

Medium?! I don't want to play Bioshock Infinite on medium! :p:D

OK, well I'll see what I can find out. :) I've just checked my motherboard's manual and I might be able to move the soundcard to a different slot. Can't work out why I didn't see that possiblity earlier.

Hiya mate,

I've just finished Infinite and I'm still rocking a 6790 which is only slightly better than a 6770. I played through pretty smoothly on the "very high" preset @ 1920*1080, so if you're lucky you might be alright on high detail - it's not the most graphically intense game fortunately.

Hi. Cheers for the info. One cool thing about buying a 7850 is that I can get Bioshock Infinite and Tomb Raider for free. So that's nearly £50 worth of free games along with a new graphics card. Makes sense to me to go for that.

I've just ordered a Gigabyte 2GB 7850 card from OcUK for Wednesday delivery. £161.99 all in.

If it's a PCI soundcard any PCI slot will do....
I've got a USB extension card and a sound card both in PCI sockets. The USB card is in the PCI socket above the graphics card and the sound card is immediately underneath the graphics card. The USB card has a much smaller profile than the graphics card so I will swap them round when I get the graphics card on Wednesday. :)
