Hi Guys
Internet is a pretty big part of life for most and me included. Im looking at buying a house which is a bit rural and the exchange it is on will be upgraded to fttc by end of the year apparently. Is there anyway I can check if this house's cabinet will be upgraded? I reallly dont want to be stuck on the 1-3mbps samknows guesses for the next 5-10 years.

I don't think there is any way to tell to be honest - I'm not connected to the cabinet that's closest to my house so I guess it depends on availability & space!

To be fair though, I'm fairly sure technology will have moved on before "5-10 years" rolls around!

Thanks for that FTTC-check site i have just checked mine. I currently get between 5 and 6 mbit and my uplift is 17.12 which means i should get between 94-100 mbit when the cabinet goes live. Hopefully this will be true!

Not when the current max is 76-80Mb. :p

Although I'm sure once the next step for VDSL2 arrives i.e. profile 30a, vectoring, etc you will benefit.

So the place seems to get ~ 3mb site says uplift will be 23.7 when it goes live which would put it on 71.1 this seems too much for the sheer distance from the cabinet VDSL drops off a lot before it gets to 2 miles doesnt it?

"Not being deployed as part of BT's 66% Commercial Plan"

Hmm, what does that mean? It's quite a built up area with fttc cabinets all around but not this particular one and it has that message. Any ideas?

It means BT has no plans to upgrade your cabinet as it makes no financial sense to them... R.E. only a handful of houses are connected to it..

I have been back and forth with BTOpenrach and my local council as I am in the same position... Basically although I live in a large popular town in Essex the Cabinet I am connected to only serves approx 6 houses.. basically as only 6 lines are connected it makes no financial sense to BTOpenreach upgrade it due to the small amount of lines plus there are other obstacles like placement of the new cab which again is causing hassles so they just now saying no..

I have even asked to BTOpenreach if they will move me onto the other cabinet and again they wont play ball ( cabinet I am connected to is 20M from my house and second cabinet is the other end of the road which is on probably 100 meters )

Its a pain but unless BTOpenreach can see money making out of the upgrades then they are not interested.
