will a charity shop take a fridge???

I would suggest asking them, but I know that the Salvation Army take most working electrical items provided they have a moulded plug on them.

Some will, some won't. A lot of charity shops have an aversion to anything electrical.

Doubt the bin men will take it either. You'd have to ring up your local council and find out their disposal arrangements.

You say you can't give the thing away? Is that financial or practical? Have you tried Gumtree, craigslist or your local freecycle?

PS - I'll admit I should take my own advice on that last point. Loads of stuff here that someone could use but I really cba (and don't feel too comfortable letting anyone on the internet know what I've got).

council will take it for about £5, If its in good nick ask around the local churches, a lot of them operate a system of setting people up who are homeless or have been relocated and white goods are always welcome, we gave our last Fridge freezer, washing machine and TV to the Arches in Nottingham, most will even collect and it gives you nice warm felling to know its going to someone who really needs it :)

Council are pretty fast at picking up Fridges & freezers because stupid kids get trapped inside them & suffocate, Ring the council as you are allowed to have 3 items picked up.

I've never heard of a kid getting trapped and dying in a fridge freezer? :p

Imagine if it's true though? The ultimate 'legal' chav-killer. Just leave a few fridge/freezers on your drive and wait. "Oh noes, the poor child must have wondered onto my property and become trapped while he was committing the tort of trespass. Clearly not my faults... your honour."

Unfortunately with today's legal system you'd not only succeed in reducing the chav population but also incur a multi-billion pound negligence case and probably chokey for not ensuring the little scrotes could molest your land unimpeded.

As for the OP, ring the council and ask about the local tip if it comes to it. Ours has a recycling corner just for fridges and freezers, where you can just dump it and they sort them out. Charities can be held liable for any electrical goods they 'sell' so it's more hassle than it's worth for them usually.

As was said above, Freecycle or the local free-ads would be worth a go. You might even get a few quid for it.

Don't chuck it if it's working, sell it to the secondhand white goods shop if you have one.
If not theres things like freecycle.

I hate this throwaway culture. It'd make any man a nice beer fridge to keep in the garage.

wtf council would take it for a fiver? where do you live its 20quid an item for white goods where i live :O
ive got 3x old fridge freezers , a bunch of massive old crt tv's etc in the garage because im not paying to have them taken away and no one else wants them (tv are all broken)

furniture items the council will remove for free but if its just like chairs and a table i find it easier just to chop them into peices and stick them in bin bags :P

(we dont have recyling bins/boxes , we dont even have an actual bin either, council dont take care of our rubbish some private firm does it)
