Hi,

I have a build using an ECS H67H2-M motherboard and a 6950-2G graphics card. Will any of the following processors fit the board ?

Coolermaster V6
Coolermaster V6GT
Coolermaster V8
Coolermaster V10

Thanks
RB

Hi there, Looking at this the V10 fits fin on the Black edition of the board - so I would assume all the smaller coolermaster CPU coolers will fit fine too.

However, I would strongly suggest against going for one of the coolermaster V series CPU coolers (especially the V10) unless you are getting them for a very good deal - as for each of them there is a better, cheaper alternative. At the top-end I would suggest going for a Thermalright Silver Arrow (just make sure you use low profile RAM), midrange would be a Thermalright Venemous X, lower end would be Geild Tranquillo.

Thanks for that.

Have just remembered that this build is also using Corsair Vengeance (Blue) ram with the large heat sinks :(.

This is a build for someone else and he likes the flashy looking coolers and cases hence the HAF X and the V6/8/10 coolers. The person is not overclocking but will not be persuaded to limit the amount of fans as he believes they are needed as his place is hot (he has 3x120MM fans, 1x200mm fan, the 750W PSU fan and he also has a large Delta fan he wants to add). The problem seems to be that he is a heavy smoker and his system overheated due to the nicotine/tar/dust build up on the fans and heatsinks (I washed his case/fans/grills etc with a spray gun last weekend to clean it out). Bottom line is he doesn't need the great cooling but likes the flashy looks.

Thanks

Ah, well I guess that is a bit of a unique situation.

In that case I would still suggest changing the RAM to low profile ones (as the vengeance heatsinks are massive and often interfere with large coolers) - also, if he goes for the V10 which has a heatsink that goes over the memory area then the memory sticks are hidden from view anyway. Plus, make it clear to him that large heatsinks are simply not required for modern 1.5V DDR3 RAM kits.

Considering he is a heavy smoker, you may want to recommend after-market dust filters on the intake fans - so long as they will be cleaned out regularly.

Unless he wants to deafen his neighbours and anyone else in the process, I'd highly recommend not using a delta fan in his PC. The akasa apache blacks are very good performers whilst being pretty much silent. I'd recommend going with something like that instead unless he insists that the noise from that delta fan wouldn't be an issue (which is hard to believe lol)

I agree with the dust filters part and you're also right about the memory not needing to be covered with a heatsink at such a low voltage.
