Will a GeForce GTX 1060 Upgrade be compatible?

Hi,

I am a bit of a PC noob and I'm thinking of upgrading my graphics card in my PC. I want to make sure it will be compatible with my motherboard.

I am currently running a PC with the following specs:
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3
GPU: MSI Geforce GTX 650 Ti Boost
CPU: AMD FX-6300, Six Core, 3.5GHz
RAM: 8GB
Power Supply: Corsair CX430

I am looking to upgrade the GPU to an ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 EX OC 6144Mb GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card as found on the following link:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus...ddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-40q-as.html

Looks like a good deal at £169 and research I have done suggests it will be compatible with my rig and a significant upgrade to performance. The motherboard has a PCI-Express 16x and the 1060 has a PCI Express 3.0 but it is backwards compatible? Will there be any other issues?

I understand the 16x slot will hamper performance but I will wait and upgrade CPU and Motherboard together at some point in the future.

Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

It will give you a tidy FPS boost - and from a brief Google i think the 1060 is on a par the 650 Ti in terms of overall power draw. So, even when taking into consideration your ageing/bronze PSU - it shouldn't be much of shock to the system if installed.

Your PSU has the necessary 6 pin - and as an upgrade it should reward you with a respectable bump in performance for the cash (wouldn't worry about the loss in performance re PCI slot - negligible).

If you can't afford a full upgrade the GPU is a solid choice if the system can tolerate it.

If you can pick up another 8Gb of memory on the cheap - that would round off your upgrade nicely.
