Hi

Will I be able to run an XFX GTX260 Black Edition on a 520W Cooler Master PSU? As on the XFX website it says I need a minium of 630W, if thats true it's put a spanner in the works as I was planning to buy the GTX260. The rest of my system is as follows:

E2180 running at 3GHz
Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H motherboard
2GB DDR2 PC6400 memory
Currently running a Radeon HD 3850 256MB
2x HDD's

I don't really want to upgrade the PSU as I have only had it for about 8 months. Whats the next best thing to a GTX260 if I can't run one?

Thanks for your help.

Don't bother with a GTX260. Get yourself a 5770, uses less power, about the same performance and it's cheaper. :)

5770 is a bit slower than a GTX260... tho power wise its roughly:

IDLE 21 v 25
LOAD: 108 v 179 - so you are using quite a lot more power for around 20% more performance* if thats a consideration.

Should run fine on that PSU with a dual core CPU.

* Performance difference isn't a clear cut case as the 5770 can pull away in certain DX10 (and obviously DX11) based games but lags a bit in DX9 and some DX10 games.

Not being funny, but in most games I have not noticed big differences between my GTX260 and my Asus 5870. The GTX 260 is still a damn good card and should easily beat a 5770 in most current games.

I am sure many will say that a 5870 walks all over a 260, but for the games I play @ 1680x1050 & 1920x1080 there is not a great deal in it.

Edit: Here is a good comparisson. Also remember that in percentage terms the GTX260 will overclock more than 5770 as well.
