Will a i7 2600k work on z97?

No unfortunately not. The 2600K is for socket 1155, the latest chipset you can use is Z77. Z87 and Z97 use socket 1150 which is for the new Haswell/Broadwell CPU's.

The socket size is the same, so the CPU will physically fit, but it is not electronically compatible, so will not work.

Hey,

Just wondering will an intel i7 2600K work on a new z97 motherboard ?

Thanks.

To add on the acme15's post, there is no real need to upgrade to a Z77 chipset if you already have a P67 or Z68 motherboard. I do not see a real need to upgrade at all. If you need an option that the modern motherboards have, you can just buy a PCIe expansion card of some sort and fill that void.

Just to back up the two previous posts.

  • Z97 and 1155 aren't compatible
  • There is little need to upgrade.

IS there a reason you wanted to upgrade?
