Will a new CPU benefit me?

Long load times are generally related to the hard drive, especially in BF4. BF4 took ages to load from a hard drive for me but is very quick when placed on a SSD.

Imo it's not worth upgrading to a 4670K because of the costs involved however, if you want to get a little more performance out of your processor it may be worth looking into overclocking it :)

Keep your CPU, a 2500K even at stock is plenty powerful enough for gaming.

Getting an SSD however will drastically reduce load times in BF4. Even my trusty M4 SSD gets me into maps before most people getting me the pick of the vehicles.

Hi all,
I've got an i5 2500k 3.3ghz with a GTX 760. Would upgrading my CPU provide any benefits in games? Might sound daft but I cant really figure it out.

Would something like this
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-472-IN

benefit me at all? I struggle with load times in some games (BF4 is bad, but that may just be that game)

Load times is nothing to do with the CPU. what you need is an SSD.

This will make BF4 load up about 5 times faster. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-175-SA&groupid=701&catid=2104&subcat=2394

I have a Samsung 830. best chunk of money i ever spent.

In anycase the 2500K is plenty powerful, the New i5 is not going to make any difference to you, its not actually much better.

Thanks for the replies guys, have now ordered an SSD.

BTW I already have an SSD, very small about 2 years old. only has OS on it.
So another SSD now for some games is inbound.
CHeers for clearing this up.

How is it fixed?

I keep reading this nonsense.

2x 670/680's are near same as 1x 780Ti (ignoring 2 card issues and Vram not doubling up).

It does not work the way you "fixed" it for others who do not need it "fixed"

That is your opinion and IMO not correct.

If all dual cards (known issues/VRam limits aside) need a powerful CPU or/and helped by HT then 2x670/680's and a 780Ti are about same performance then the same will be true.

New to forum but not a n00b.

Reading that i7/HT only needed for SLI nonsense a lot this past month.

I went from a 5GHZ 2700k to a poo 4770k that will not clock and fitted this new 780Ti yesterday.

I have to try clock it to get a gain (will not do 4.2GHZ stable) as so far its not as much over the 680 4GB that I took out as it should be and both GPU's were not running 100% since swapping to Haswell (a mistake I knew I should not have done but got the itch).

A stock 4770 is not doing it for the 680 or 780ti.

Note some games and your screen RES are more about CPU and some about GPU but its a balance you do not run a CPU @ 2GHZ with a 780Ti and get the max FPS you can.

A 780Ti isn't really up there with a 680 SLI though, 680 SLI and even a 670 SLI is quite a fair bit better.

Bar the odd game here or there, you'll notice little difference over a 4670K/4770K with a 780Ti at equal clocks with a single card (Unless say in the future we're running like overclocked 680 SLI performance in a single GPU)

Many reviews show SLI 670/680's same as single 780Ti in many games.

Its near enough and does not change what I said about a fast CPU or/and HT only needed for 2x card set up, which I do not agree with.

I aint happy I cannot clock this poo CPU as I know was/is effecting both my GPU's.

What I did notice going from a Q9650 to 2700k to Haswell with same GPU (680 4GB) is the Min FPS are a good bit higher (doubled from Q9650 to 2700k), not sure how much on Haswell but its up.

I may have simplified it, but my point stands IMO.

Not all titles need an i7 (or higher) to get the most out of powerful dual cards, but in those that do take advantage of multi-threading, there is a clear advantage.

I went from a 2500K to a 2600K and can vouch for that. Others here can say the same when they switched from i5 to i7 with their dual card setups.

I think you're confusing the argument with talk of stock vs OC, when that was never in question.

Correct not "all titles" and I never stated it was "all" titles.

I would however tell anyone with a higher midrange/high end GPU to OC their stock CPU's and so do many here.

I am not confused, a high clocked CPU and HT can help a high end GPU in many (not all) games be it single or SLI/Crossfire.

Buying today I see no point if you are a gamer and buying a high end GPU to not buy a i7.
