Will a PCI Express 2.0 card work on my mobo?

I have an old mobo, its a Gigabyte P35c-DS3R (a socket 775 mobo).

I currently have a Geforce 8800GT as my graphics card but its starting to struggle with recent releases. (AvP is unplayable).

I'm looking at this Geforce 470 as a replacement but it says that is uses PCI Express 2.0.

My mobo says that it has a single PCI Express x16 socket. (Mobo spec here)

Will they work together?

backward compatible I do belive there is a very small and I mean small performace drop probley less than 1%

sort of like SLI/crossfire on 8x/8x
