Will a USB-C dock work with a Thunderbolt 4 port ?

I've tried Google but a definitive answer is proving elusive. I have a Dell laptop with just 2 x Thunderbolt 4 ports (nothing else except a headphone/mic jack). I want a dock so that I can connect to an external monitor (HDMI), and have 2 or 3 USB2/USB3 ports for peripherals.

I don't want to pay £300+ for a Thunderbolt 4 dock (I'm not going to use it that much) so I'm trying to understand if a USB-C dock would work here (you can get them for around £40/£50). Anyone got any experience of doing this ?

Thanks,

Lee.

You don't need one with a power supply, as they use the regular dell psu. That power is then sent through the dock over the thunderbolt along with the data etc so it's a all in one solution.

Unless your laptop doesn't have a regular dell psu.
