bought a Netgear WG111T 108Mbps Wireless USB2.0 Adapter the other day for work.

sum1 has a wireless router setup (netgear dg834) and hes had it on for a few months now , i have a centrino enabled laptop with built in wifi and it caught the signal and had decent signal strength. used to leave it on most of the day and it would work fine, rarely loosing the signal.

connected the usb adaptor to the pc, and just about managed to get a connection to the router, it dropped out on average within 15 minutes. half the time i had to restart the pc or unplug the stick to make it connect again. updated the drivers, had no luck. disabled the netgear software and tried using windows software but had the same result.

so gonna get rid of the usb adaptor and go for a built in pci card. the only thing putting me off getting a pci card is that the pc is under the desk and the router is a few units down from us. would it catch the signal?

if it wont shall i go for a external access point instead. if so which 1, dont wanna spend more then £30.

Well you can get a decent access point for ~£35, or you can just get an antenna extension for the pci card. It will most likley fix the problems you're having :).

that sounds like a good idea.

cards are only about £15-20, £10-15 for an aerial and hopefully itll do the job.

which would u recommend out of these 3. ive always had good luck with linksys stuff but the router is a netgear. but then again the usb adapter was netgear and it was no good, so brand probably doesnt matter.

Linksys Wireless 54mbps PCI Adapter Card
Belkin 802.11g Wireless PCI Adapter
Netgear WG311 54mbps 802.11g Wireless PCI Card

9/10 times i'd say this Linksys, although the other card being netgear may have a better compatibility with the router. Depends on what model the router is tbh.
