The next bunch of AMD cpu's out later this year, they require the AM3+ board you selected.

So offers a easy upgrade path in the future.

Upgrade paths: Ivybridge and BullDozer

Bulldozer is expected to give a similar performance to sandybridge so we can expect ivy bridge to be faster?

This is quad core sandybridge, again no overclocking, but its faster than AMD cpu at stock speeds.

what about RAM? would 4gb be better than 8 or 6?

All these systems are dual channel so either a 4GB or 8GB kit is used.

4GB is more than enough for a gaming system, but theres a 8GB kit (useful for video editing and music creation) at £54, so is cheap - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-094-KS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517
