Will all this fit without snagging?

I should have asked BEFORE I clicked on the "place order" button :o

Just ordered from here:

Asus A8N SLI-SE Mobo
Zalman CNPS9500 LED Aero Flower
OcUK Geforce 7800 GT
Zalman VF700-CU Copper VGA cooler
Zalman Northbridge Cooler ZM NB47J
SB Audigy 4 OEM
Hiper Type R Blue 580W PSU

Question

Are all those coolers gonna sit OK on that board and not snag each other. I particularly worried about the Zalman Northbridge cooler snagging the GFX card or GFX card cooler.

Anyone got a similar spec and been fine with it, or had any problems?

Ta

I have the VF700-Cu on my 7800GTX along with a NB47J on my chipset. This is on an Asus A8N-SLI Premium. I had to bend some of the pins on the NB47J and it only sits about 75% on the surface of the chipset. However, it cools sufficiently and the air blown out from the VF700-Cu probably helps it keep the chipset cooler as well. I'm using cable ties to hold the NB47J down as my Premium has the heatpipe thingie on it. Not much use to me though as it's in a Lian-Li V1100+ and hence is upside down and not working [no wick in the heatpipe]!

like matt said you may have bend a few pins on the NB cooler, i have the 9500 and was warned when i bought it to make sure it will fit the case as i have an side intake fan round about the same place. don't know about the lian li cases though.

I have the Lian Li PC6083a case. Medium Tower

I should think the new 9500 cooler will fit in.

I'll have to bend a few of those NB cooler fins then. Fine, so long as the thing will work... The Asus NB fans are too noisy for me thats for sure....

Just out of interest, seeing as the VF700-Cu is lopsided, when not just mount it on the other diagonal? I've just done it, getting very good temperatures and the northbridge is now completely clear for an NB47J. This is with an A8N-E and a 6800GT.

Only problem now is I've got to take the motherboard out of the case to get the old northbridge fan off...

The Motherboard will not be an issue as far as I can tell, but that is a lot of coolers and heat sinks. I have a Zalman 9500 and it was the case much more than the motherboard that was the issue.

What an inspired idea!

I've not put the northbridge cooler on to date as I was scared of breaking the pins off trying to avoid the VF700.

At the moment the A8N-SLI-SE northbridge cooler is surprisingly quiet. If it gets noiser I'll take it all to bits again and do as you suggested. Any chance of a picture of your setup with that vf700 please?

i've just fitted a cu700 although i havn't fitted it on the diagonal, i'll so see if i can get you some pics........

If its just pics of the standard VF700CU as fitted normally, no need JDL m8. I have one in my PC. I would like to see Rob's setup to see how he fitted it backwards so to speak. :D

I had to bend the pins on my fau1ty yesterday when i installed it so it would fit next to the zalman northbridge cooler too. I have an A8n-SLI Deluxe.

I also have an Akasa EVO 120 which is almost touching the GFX and sticks out of the side of the case so the side wont fit on lol, its an old ******s case and its really small so am changing it soon. They seriously need to make bigger motherboards!

I'll try and get a picture, but basically instead of mounting it using the top left and bottom right holes as shown in those pictures I used top right and bottom left, meaning that the smaller fins are pointing towards the NB47J and don't get in it's way.

Edit: in other words, imagine the heatsink rotated 90 degrees anti-clockwise. :)

Give this man an intuitive thinking award. Brilliant.

I'm sorely tempted to give this a go. Although I have a feeling that I may have crossthreaded one of the nipples (sounds painful don't it! :D )

Ouch! Hmm, not fitted the NB47J, hoping I have a touch more space that on the motherboard in the picture as it looks like it will be pretty close for that one.

Oh, and that carpet looks like what I have in my bedroom!

I've already rotated the heatsink, just a matter of using the other holes to put the nipples in and since the base of the heatsink is circular it is in just as much contact as it is the other way round.

No No No. The Zalman Northbridge installation too !! I know you did the VF700 as you described before ;)

I want to know if its gonna fit for sure. That said my Second Edition A8N has the chipset rotated by 45 degrees so yours may not be totally representative.

EDIT: Oh and JDL, do what Rob did and you shouldn't snag the NB cooler. Are you gonna try it?

All done. My A8N chipset fan was also rotated 45 degrees, but the chip itself is straight. I just put the NB47J on straight by adjusting it's arms to fit the holes.

It does come very close to the heat sink over the back of the 6800GT, and does get pretty hot, so it's probably doing a good job of warming up my graphics card! I've got a fan in the front blowing air in over my hard disk and right at the NB47J, but it's a fair way off and I've got to have it in full blast and it's pretty noisy.

Will have a look at mounting a fan above the NB47J, a nice 120mm fan I've got spare set at a slow rate should help.

Still, least I got rid of that annoying small fan whine! Temps are up a bit, but still acceptable, just want to fine tune my fan placement so I can turn them down a touch.

yeah ok then.... <says it in a whinny kids voice> but i just put al together the neatest it has ever been!! :p

will post the pics when done ;)

Been running for a while now and I don't think temperatures are that good. I have:

Asus A8N-E
6800GT
Zalman VF700-Cu
NB47J on northbridge.

Zalman on 5V, a 120mm fan mounted on an arm above the NB47J and card. 6800GT idles at 54C, chipset temp is around 33C, CPU around 34C (this is using Qfan).

Under load the 6800GT goes up to around 68C. Bit worrying since I've heard people say theirs is at 54C under load!

Either I've got the NB47J interferring as it's right underneath the 6800GT, or I've borked the VF700 install with too much paste or something.
