Im looking for a new psu and all the ones i would say are a quality psu are moving to ATX 3.1 / 16-pin 12VHPWR.

some only have 2x8pin PCIe and 1x16-pin 12VHPWR
what happens if you running a AMD card that needs 3x8pin, are we really back to needing splitters

im in the prosses of eyeing up a AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX NITRO+
it needs 2x8pin

Some PSUs have a cable to turn the 12VHPWR into 2x PCI-E 8 pin, pretty ugly :o

There are still some ATX 3.x PSUs that have the option of 3x PCIE and 2x EPS12v, but like you said, have to be careful what you buy.

I’ve been reading online that amd was planning on fitting the 16pin to there 7800xt but decided not to because of the melting problems so maybe they will use it over time
