Asking on behalf of a friend:

Will an Xbox 360 live work with any router?

Or does it need to be in the compatible list here : http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/support/xbox/connect/faq/routers.htm

I'd stick with whats on the list TBH. Some routers don't support stuff like full NAT which Xbox live needs.

Without testing every router, i would say 99% of them will, I got one for a mate and it isnt on that list and it worked 100%
