Hi,

Would I expect to see a motherboard boot with just RAM installed? I am still waiting on my Ryzen to be delivered. Thought I could at least open BIOS and sort DDR config out but at present...... nothing :(

Thanks!

Answer is same as to "Can you drive car if you remove its engine?"
Or actually would have to remove also all that control electronics for fully comparable situation.

No, it shouldn't boot without a CPU, some boards may have the capability to flash the BIOS without a CPU but that's it. Minimum you'll need for Ryzen (unless it's a G chip)is to install CPU (and cooler), at least one stick of ram (the motherboard manual will show you which slot/s to use) and a graphics card.
