Will broken sata connector void warranty?

Can anyone tell me if a broken sata tab will void your warranty?

I have a samsung F1 500g HD that's starting to fail but the sata connector tab snapped off about a year ago (I know they are not the strongest parts in the world but it literally did just snap off!). I handle lots of HD's/opticals for various builds/repairs and know to be careful with them.

It would be considered customer damage by Samsung so the warranty would not cover it.

The same thing happened to me . I rang seagate and he said that wouldn't be a problem just send it in they only check to make sure the tamper tag is in place.
Sent it in they replaced it even though the drive worked fine . All i did was to use a locking sata cable to keep it connected. The broken plastic tab i placed in the cable first and then fitted the cable to the hard drive. When i got my new case i rma the drive and they sent me a new one.

That's how it was connected and it was working no probs for over a year, but I think i'll try my luck with an RMA anyway.
