Argh I know, sorry for the Christmas thread but the girlfriend and I are looking at going away to our respective parents the weekend before, and having a proper Christmas to ourselves. Problem being er, when do we get our turkey/beef/food :p

Can't get to our local butchers to ask this weekend, but do you think they will open Christmas Eve (Mon) to pickup pre-ordered meats?

I've never done it before, but is it a case of just going in and saying 'I want a 3kilo turkey and a 2kilo rib of beef and I'll pick it up Christmas Eve?' :p

So you haven't time between Monday and Christmas Eve to go talk to you local butchers.

Pretty much your last line. Put order in and collect when they're open, a lot will be open.

I guess they would be, for the morning at least. But I have no idea. Just pop down and ask as soon as you can, they'll all be different.

If I was a butcher I would make it my mission to be open on Christmas eve.
If I was a butcher I'd open Thurs-Sun. I always wonder what they do midweek when everyones at work. Not much? :p

Yeah my girlfriend is panicking about ordering train tickets to go home. Not having a car sucks. If you're not organised 3 months ahead of when you want to go it'll cost a fortune :(

I'm just posting on here to make it look like in doing something to help :p

The one I go to is open Christmas eve, although there was an issue last year as they didn't get enough giblets (how is that even possible?) so there were none left by the time we got there.

The one we use opens at 5am on Christmas Eve regardless of whether it is a Sunday. I would have thought this would be the case for most of the independent ones.

When should I order my Christmas meat? Beginning of December? I'll be getting a rib roast this year I think.

It's the first year I've been in charge of the entire Christmas dinner. :o

Don't bother, simply go to China town for drinks and Christmas dinner and then buy a huge luxurious dinner from the supermarket the following day when everything is reduced to about 10p. Works for me.

Not a bad plan. So how about online places like Westin etc.? Anyone put their faith in them for the Christmas dinner? Or I see that you can order from M&S and Waitrose etc..

Christmas is the one time of year you should treat yourself, go to a good local butcher and buy some good local meat, it might be pricey but it will be lovely and will give you that warm feeling you get when you support local business and community.

PS My butcher opens on Christmas eve morning, it's part of christmas tradition popping out to fetch the bird!
