Just wondering if it will make any difference? The timings look a lot better, seems my memory is my bottle neck now..

I presume you're referring to the EL platinum kit? The tight timings will make a difference. Whether its worth the outlay is another matter entirely.

It will make a difference but only around 5% so not really worth it.

Keep your current memory because when you upgrade in the future you will most likely need new DDR2 memory anyway.

By bottleneck what do you mean? What speed and timings are you running your Geil Value at?

Memory speed makes very little difference to an A64 system, its not bandwidth limited at all.

just standard timings, havent changed em, 4-4-4-8 or something i think

bottleneck isn't the word i guess, its the only piece of 'value' equipment in my box!

You'll get no discernable increase in performance by getting that OCZ memory other than in benchies. I'd try to tighten your timings to summat like 2.5-3-3-7-1t and run at as new stock as possible. I went from 2 x gig generic PQI memory to ocz pc3200 EL ram and there was no difference.

4-4-4-8@200fsb?
I run my ocz ram at 2.5/4/3/2/6 @ 290fsb, i'd guess this would make a rather big difference than 4-4-4-8 @200fsb, infact I could run some test for you if you want. (superpi was thats easy).

I'll run these timings under superpi 1M just to give you an idea of the difference, but i'd say it isnt worth it.

I have a [email protected] (so i've overclocked the standard fsb from 200 to 290)

So I will run.

4-4-4-8 @ 200fsb : superpitime
2-2-2-5 @ 200fsb : superpitime
2.5-4-3-2 @290fsb : superpitime

I mention the last one as ocz ram overclocks well, so you might be able to reach the same overclocked timings as me if you overclokc your cpu so you can have your ram and cpu at 1:1.
The ram wont be exactly at 200fsb as the divider doesnt work like that, but it'll be close enough to see performance differences.

Try changing your Geil Value to:

CAS 2.5
tRP 3
tRCD 3
tRAS 7

Vdimm 2.7V

That should net you a little performance and save you needing to upgrade.

The 2gb kit is rated at 3-4-4-8 at DDR400 though, is it possible to tighten them that far?

Yup even with the 2GB kits they'll do those timings, mine and everyone else I've seen has got theirs to 2.5-3-3-7 at 2.7V, its good stuff for the money :)

how do i change the timings on my a8n premium?

also this wont de-stabilise my system at all will it? i dont like freezes etc ;)

You'll need to go into the BIOS and find the values, I don't know my way around your BIOS well enough but I'm sure someone will :)

Same here 2.5/3/3/7 @1T, this mem will hit 235-240 at 2.9v
