will computer hardware get more costly?

Been wondering this myself in the last day or two.

I badly need to build a new system, but I've been wanting to hold out until Broadwell-E launches the summer. But who knows where the exchange rate will be by then.

As I see it, the best case scenario is it's a temporary wobble because of the EU referendum and prices will stay about the same. Worst case scenario is the Pound continues to tumble because of fears (or indeed the reality) of an EU exit and prices will go up, a lot.

Either way, I don't see prices coming down, at best they will stay roughly the same.

I'm tempted to jump for a system now rather than sit it out. If I had a better system I would take the risk of waiting perhaps, but my current PC is now 8 years old.

Decisions decisions.

Short version, yes - the pound getting weaker against the dollar does mean parts get more expensive. Gibbo often posts this on the forum as the reason why a CPU (or whatever) has crept up by £5-£20 compared to the last batch they ordered.

That said, who knows what the markets and exchange rate will do over the coming days/weeks? The pound could stay low and components will stay pricey, or the dollar might have issues and the pound soars meaning our stuff gets cheaper.

The cheapest time to buy new hardware is just before a new generation when retailers clear stock. Last time 290 dropped below £200 and 290x was not far behind. Also when retailers get a large batch of older products to sell on, eg 7950 for £95 and 780 for £160 iirc.
