Back in March 2008 I brought my 1st PC a q6600 and was £950 and didnt think twice about pressing the buy button. The only part I have updated threw the years is only the graphic card. From Overclockers system bundle gaming system can you pick an I5 or I7 what's worth around £950 and then I can always phone up to change an order to the parts I want. The main parts what i will be changing will be the CPU cooler ,case and graphic card and may be the motherboard unless you say so other wise. But then again if this baby http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-244-OE&groupid=43&catid=2040&subcat= was £1380 i would have snapped it up with out worrying but hay can always dream...

Sorry to be such a pain asking all these questions but this time buying a PC I am worried for some reason.

you get more pleasure building it yourself i defo agree if you were to pick a CPU i would choose IB i5 over i7

It's not so much the pride of doing it yourself or even the wider range of components you can use if you take the job on yourself.

It's the warranty that makes the difference in my eyes. A prebuild as standard comes with 1 year warranty, to extend this costs extra. Seeing as you can buy these parts yourself and most will come with 3 maybe even 5 year warranties (varies with brand and component)......that is certainly an incentive to do some of the work yourself.

i didnt the first time because my first ever build caught fire when i pressed the power button...

My own fault, i plugged something in the wrong place and i was too busy celebrating the fact that it turned on to notice the chips that were all burning one by one then it popped and the middle of the board started flaming :p

Bye bye original Pentium D motherboard xD

Its this sort of worry that puts rookie builders off of building thier own PC.

all is OK now, that was the last PC, the Pentium D rig that has cropped up in a few of my threads :p i had to buy a new board because i voided the warranty. Thankfuly nothing on the board broke, just the board itself.

The current rig suffered a power surge (i think) which blew a small chip on the bottom of the board, the watercooling unit has screwed itself over (common issue with this cooler) and the lian li psu clamp bent my psu...

I am perfectly capable of building a PC, but i do seem to have a lot of bad luck :(

Power surges arent covered by the warranty, so now i have a warranty-less motherboard with a tiny chip by the firewire header burned out... Gonna live with it though, system runs fine... Buying a surge protector :p
