Will there ever be a day when the 16 cores in my Microwave made in 2036 all be fully utilised? Or is this new trend going nowhere?

What if my Microwave was made redundant by a new model, and I was forced to use it for gaming and general applications?
My theory is that software makesr thought the trend for faster and faster clock speeds would continue however the switch to multicore cought them with their pants down.
Given that you carn't just tack on multicore you will have to wait until a complete new game engine is built and this can take a very long time.
Looking at some of the games that have been released lately the do seem to be a little rushed as if they are trying to get yet another release from an aging software engine.
It's a theory anyhow.
