Will Crysis deliver ?

Ok, I follow every piece of Crysis-related news with eager anticipation for the demo/final release.

We can see from all the HD movies and screenshots that it will deliver on the graphical front, in the same way as Far Cry raised the bar for graphics in 2004.

I do have my concerns though that with all the very best intentions of Crytek that it will fail to deliver a complete gameplay experience to match the eye candy on offer.

The AI in the latest video from E3 seems no more advanced than Far Cry. The developer states that they had to build in much more advanced AI compared to FarCry to deal with the nature of the destructible environment. AI in FarCry was point driven, whereby certain area, e.g rocks/terrain etc. could be reliably used by the AI to hide. The changing environment in Crysis poses a greater challenge for the AI, and Crytek claimed to have developed this in, but from looking at the various videos available the AI seems a bit, shall we say, confused at times ;)

Whats the general consensus of opinion here ? Do we think Crysis will give us new revolutionary gameplay elements beyond a tech-demo display of awesome graphics ? or will the experience go into meltdown when the island gets frozen and the aliens escape (Trigens anyone?) ?

nope, far cry was a below avg shooter dressed up in flashy graphics and sadly Crysis looks like its going to be the same although i hope im wrong... but ill be too busy playing Bioshock to worry

roll on Deus ex 3 which is in development allegedly on the PC first but again they ruined the 2nd game via poor design and console porting

I think its gonna turn out to be awesome. I hope I'm right too :p

How can you say Farcry was below average? If thats below average what the hell is average :/
Farcry is one of the best shooters on pc.

I'm far more worried about Bioshock turning out to be a bit pants.

If the AI in Crysis turns out to be *only* as good as Farcry, it is still gonna be good (ie much better than HL2)

its just an opinion Floyd, ive completed Farcry but found it tedious and unrewarding 'gameplay wise' and so far the vids of crysis just look like farcry re-vamped with better gfx plus the AI in farcry wasnt anything special

Bioshock may also dissapoint but after SS2 and the ingame vids ive seen it looks more appealling and diverse with the Art Deco gfx a refreshing change plus the AI seems far superior with a different edge

I find most FPS like that, games considered classics like Call of Duty and Half Life 2 end up becomming boring and repetitive for me, I think thats just the way of FPS games.

Im hoping it will but not getting my hopes up, nowadays people tend to OVER hype games when they turn out to be avarage..

I hope it will deliver, i havent felt the same about a game since when i first played Half-Life or GTA3.......I need that feeling back :D

Tad underwhelmed by recent footage.
Never completed Far Cry - got too tedious for me, and I'm thinking gameplay wise it's going to be more of the same

i think it'll be great fun, with lots of scope for experimenting with the engine and going 'oooohhhhh' etc. COD 4 might well be better though, especially in MP :D

Although good looking so far, I think once the average gamer gets it on their own system and turns a few things down, and sees it raw pixel perfect on their OWN screen some aspects of it will be underwhelming.

I imagine I will enjoy playing it, but if you remove specifics from the descriptions given of the game so far it doesn't differ from the hype of any big game from the last 15years. Bigger, better, cleverer, etc. the day-to-day gameplay experience could still be boring.

Many games have had impressive prerelease guff about storylines too, but when you actually get into the game the concepts that had you salivating in anticipation just... just fall flat.

Well that was pessimistic :)

I think it will be great, just not up to peoples' skewed image of how it will play in reality.

you think deus ex 3 will be good?

im a massive fan but with none of the original team (afaik) working on it i have very little expectations from this.

I think the best thing is to not watch or read anything to do with the game. The more you read in to 'amazing AI' and other stuff they are touting as selling points, the bigger the disappointment.

Best just to ignore (I know it's haaard) everything, and play the game when it's released. Then you will have no real expectations about anything, you'll be surprised by what comes along and get to exerience the game rather than end up underwhelmed.

These days I forget about games until they're released for this exact reason!

(I have watched a little bit though, I am bad) But then everyone peels off a corner of a xmas present , right? :D :D

I hope the multiplayer is great, being honest I am not that fussed about wether the single player is all that, as i found far cry to be an alright game :)

Im underwhelmed now, im sick of seeing FarCrys jungle just tarted up, and what is it with that pathetic voice, MAXIMUM SPEED, MAXIMUM ARMOUR, thats gona be annoying as hell, and why do i think of Mr Incredible everytime i see his arms when he's wearing that suit, i hope it turns out to be a good game though like FarCry, i just think everyones expectations are way to high, and a lot will be dissapointed as its not THE game they thought it was.

lol, I quite like it tbh :D It's a game thats got a lot going for it (CuZ spill more beans on OE2, please) Maybe a lil overhyped, but aren't most games, these days?

Well I though Farcry was brilliant. So if it's more of the same then i'm going to be very happy. :)

I just love the way you can tackle the levels in so many different ways in Farcry. I cant wait for this.

I'm personally looking forward to HL2 Ep2 and UT3 more, but thats just personal opinion kicking in. I haven't completed FarCry yet, although it is a good game I did get a little bored by the end of it.
