Due to the 256mb would a 2850 run crysis ok? Cos my mate may want a graphics card to run crysis. I think a 3850 would be a good choice cos he doesnt play games often and it a great power saver too. I built his sys for him last summer, and the specs are, if i can remember....

amd x2 4300 or 4400, not oc
2gb ddr2 value mem
xfx 6800gt 256mb
asus motherboard, cant remember the model
using onboard sound

No, if you really want one of those go for the 512mb card, but no one should buy a new graphics card just for crysis, you'll just be disappointed anyway.

crysis is playable on my 8400gs, you just have to fiddle with the settings to get the right balance of looks and performance.

What about a lower spec card with 512mb on board, cos my x1900xt played crysis very well?

that's nice - hopefully i will be able to play it well. Exactly what settings did you use (i am not too fussy but would like 1024 x 768 at least)

1024x768, 2xAA, Everything on high accept for shadows on low, post processing on medium, shaders medium. heres the benchmark from my x1900xt card......

Not shabby at all, the x1900xt card beats my 3870 with the min fps.. With everything high 1280x1024, vsync with no aa my 3870 min fps is 15 - 16

To be honnest im quite dissapointed how crysis runs with my 3870 over my 1900xt card, like ive said in other threads, I think crysis must have really liked my x1900xt card, and crysis isnt fully using my 3870 card, or something like that anyway.

yes, i don't think crysis is using your card as it should - if I were upgrading to the 3870 (which i like) i would want a minimum fps of close to 30

for my info, how does the 3870 compare with the x1900xt you had on other games, such as tf2, cod4, bioshock...

only thing you can do is wait and pray that its some kind of driver issue on ati's end. the minimum fps seems to be low on a lot of games using the 3870 going by the benches on hardocp and firingsquad.

other games all run maxed out and silky smooth, tombe raider legend,Warhammer 40k - Dawn of War, Oblivion, doom3, quak 4 cod4, c&c3, all the nfs gams, pray and farcry. The only game I dont run maxed out it fear, keep "soft shadows" off and "vol lighting" on med, cos the min fps with vsync on is 29.

I havent used fraps on other games, but they all seem to run silky smooth, as my x1900xt would tend to chug a a bit in fear and oblivion, plus with fear and oblivion i used 1024x768 with my 1900xt card, but now I can run them in 1280x1024 no probs.

fear and oblivion run well with me 1600 x 1200 but with option tweaking (mid- high though, AA on fear, no AA on oblivion)

i assume you were running 1024 x 768 on the above 'maxed out'
